Why do power companies use bare transmission line for power distribution?
Relative to insulated wire:
1. It is least cost
2. It is easier to install (no insulation to manage).
3. Is has lower maintenance (no insulation to maintain)
Air is used as the insulation by providing sufficient spacing between conductors. The conductors are placed high overhead to inhibit contact by persons or equipment.
Federal funds, distribution of political power in play with census count
